Dr Michael Katharakis (Director of TIHC)
Dr. Michalis Katharakis holds a BSc in Physics from the University of Crete (1994) and two PhDs: one in Applied Mathematics and Physics from the National Technical University of Athens (2003) and another in Production and Management Engineering from the Technical University of Crete (2017). He specializes in innovation management, entrepreneurship, and regional development. He is the Director of the Technical Institute of Heraklion Chamber, CEO of the Mediterranean Agri-Food Competence Center, and Vice President of the Regional Council for Research and Innovation of Crete. His research focuses on innovation management, cluster development, and technology transfer, with over 20 peer-reviewed articles and contributions to two books. He has managed over €5 million in EU-funded projects and has led multiple Greek government-funded research initiatives. Since 2004, he has directed Technical Schools at the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce, promoting regional entrepreneurship and innovation. A frequent contributor to Greek media, he is fluent in Greek and English. Recently, his research has expanded into AI, exploring its applications in innovation and entrepreneurship to address real-world business challenges and drive sustainable development.
Markella Splinaki (EU Project Manager)
Markella Splinaki is a Biomedical Engineer (M.Sc.) and Junior Data Analyst with expertise in nanomedicine research and data analysis. She holds a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering and a Bachelor’s in Physics from the University of Crete. At IESL-FORTH, she conducted chemical synthesis, data processing, and contributed to scientific publications. Currently managing EU projects at the Technical Institute of Heraklion Chamber, she oversees deliverables and proposal writing. Proficient in Python, SQL, Power BI, and Tableau, she integrates scientific expertise with data analysis to drive innovation. She has participated in key conferences and seminars, holding certifications in data science, and excels in problem-solving, teamwork, and strategic decision-making.

Ilektra Koundouraki (EU Project Manager)
Ms. Ilektra Koundouraki holds a BSc degree in Economic Science and holds Licensed to practice the profession accountant from b class. She has been serving as an EU Project Manager at the Technical Schools of the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce since March 2024. Her prior experience includes roles where she demonstrated expertise in economic feasibility studies, financial analysis, and the submission of co-funded programs.
