Orfeu Flores (CEO and Founder)

PhD in Biology – Molecular Genetics speciality. He is a very experienced entrepreneur in Life Sciences. Previously, he led STAB Tratamento de Águas e Biotecnologia Lda. and STAB Ambiente, and founded two other SMEs, showcasing his diverse and entrepreneurial career in biotechnology. Awarded with “Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2001” by the Portuguese Academy of Young Businessmen. He has coordinated EU-funded research projects, contributing significantly to medical and environmental genetics. Doctor Orfeu Flores has numerous scientific publications, experience mentoring post-doctoral fellows and supervising PhD and Master students. He participated in several consortia research projects and served as an external evaluator for the European Commission. He is a member of various scientific societies, underlining his commitment to advancing biotechnology and genetics.

Gonçalo Doria (Head of R&D)

PhD in Biological Engineering – Genetic Engineering speciality. Gonçalo is an expert in biomedical research, focusing on in vitro medical devices (IVD) for POC Dx, biotechnology, molecular biology, and genomics. His extensive skills in laboratory techniques and software tools are supported by a strong publication record and active research involvement. He has experience in co-supervising PhD and Master students. He participated in several consortia research projects and served as an external evaluator for the European Commission.

Gonçalo Doria (Head of R&D)

PhD in Biological Engineering – Genetic Engineering speciality. Gonçalo is an expert in biomedical research, focusing on in vitro medical devices (IVD) for POC Dx, biotechnology, molecular biology, and genomics. His extensive skills in laboratory techniques and software tools are supported by a strong publication record and active research involvement. He has experience in co-supervising PhD and Master students. He participated in several consortia research projects and served as an external evaluator for the European Commission.

Daniela Leão (International Business and Co-Founder)

Degree in Applied Chemistry – Biotechnology Branch from Nova University of Lisbon and holds a postgraduate degree in Laboratory Management from ISQ and RELACRE. Worked as a researcher in the Department of Genetics at the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Lisbon (IHMT) between 1996 and 1998. Daniela became Director of the Genomics Laboratory at STAB VIDA, overseeing the company’s services, focusing on Sanger, Genotyping, Fragment Analysis and Primer Synthesis services for more than 15 years. It was with her leadership that each of the laboratories grew and was sustainable. For 5 years, she also managed the commercial team.

Pedro Pinto (International Business)

Degree in Biology from University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) and holds a master’s degree in clinical and laboratory biology from UTAD. With a decade of experience in sales and business development, Pedro assumed leadership of the NGS service in 2017. He spearheaded a major restructuring initiative, which included hiring new staff, finding new suppliers, and introducing new work methods and online modules to improve both customer experience and operational efficiency.

Pedro Pinto (International Business)

Degree in Biology from University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) and holds a master’s degree in clinical and laboratory biology from UTAD. With a decade of experience in sales and business development, Pedro assumed leadership of the NGS service in 2017. Eduardo Coelho (R&D Scientist)

MSc in Biomedical Sciences. Eduardo has worked on several R&D projects at STAB VIDA, focusing on molecular diagnostics and point-of-care devices. He contributed to the EU-funded LungCARD project abroad, supporting the development of an on-chip genetic test for lung cancer therapy guidance. He was part of the core team that developed and brought to market the Doctor Vida Pocket molecular test for SARS-CoV-2, contributing to device development, validation, and manufacturing, as well as supporting ISO 13485:2016 implementation. In recent years, he has been working on expanding Doctor Vida’s portfolio with new assays, including tests for lactose intolerance and Legionella pneumophila.

Cristina Maria Cardoso Dias

Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Geology Education from the University of Aveiro (1994) and a Master’s degree in Geology and Biology Teaching from the same institution (1999).
Teaches Natural Sciences at the lower secondary level and Biology and Geology at the upper secondary level.
Since 2018, she has been part of the teaching staff at the Paço de Arcos School cluster.
She has coordinated the Clube Ciência Viva na Escola since 2019.
