DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to a special lecture by Professor Dipanjan Nag\, a globally recognized expert in intellectual property strategy and technology transfer. \nThe lecture “The Role of Intellectual Property in Building a Successful Innovation Ecosystem” will explore how intellectual property (IP) can serve as a strategic tool to foster innovation\, attract investment\, and drive sustainable growth in research institutions and Start-Up ecosystems. In an era where knowledge is the most valuable asset\, IP has become increasingly central to the development of competitive and resilient innovation environments. \nAs Portugal’s Research Centers and Start-Up scenes continue flourishing with initiatives like the ones led by ITQB NOVA and NIMSB’s TTOs\, Startup Lisboa and the Web Summit—understanding how to leverage IP effectively is critical. Professor Nag will share global perspectives and practical insights on how academic institutions and Start-Ups can harness IP beyond protection\, using it as a catalyst for value creation and international scalability. \nKey topics will include: \n\nStrategic use of IP to enhance organizational value\nTechnology transfer as a self-sustainability strategy for universities and Start-Ups\nThe role of IP in investment readiness and global expansion\nCareer pathways in the field of intellectual property\n\nThis lecture offers a valuable opportunity for academic leaders\, researchers\, innovation managers\, and entrepreneurs to gain a deeper understanding of IP’s potential in shaping a successful innovation ecosystem. \nAbout the Speaker \n \nProf. Dipanjan Nag brings over 20 years of experience in technology transfer and intellectual property. He served as an advisor to the U.S. National Science Foundation’s TIP Directorate (2023–2024) and holds the prestigious RTTP and CLP credentials. With a proven track record in IP strategy\, he has helped generate over $500 million in value\, supported the creation of 80+ start-ups and over 600 exclusive licenses. He is currently the President of Innovaito\, LLC\, Chair of the Ohio IP Alliance\, and teaches IP strategy at Rutgers University and as visiting faculty at Sofia University in Bulgaria.
