Early Detection and Prevention of Disease Outbreaks in Crete: A Stakeholder-Focused Public Health Initiative

As part of its Public Health initiatives, the Region of Crete organized an informational event titled:
“Emergency Incidents – Outbreaks of Waterborne and Foodborne Diseases: Tools, Practices, and Protocols.”

The event took place on June 27th, 2025, at 11:00, at the Lassithi Chamber Hall in Agios Nikolaos.

This educational session was aimed at key stakeholders, including hotel and restaurant managers, elderly care homes, schools, camps, and healthcare facilities. It focused on protecting the public from gastroenteritis outbreaks caused by norovirus and other waterborne diseases such as Legionnaires’ disease.

During the event, DxHub highlighted the importance of preventive measures through the use of point-of-care (POC) diagnostic devices, which enable early detection of pathogens and the timely implementation of disinfection protocols.

Participants also completed questionnaires to assess their understanding of One Health technologies and their interest in adopting preventive protocols involving appropriate biosensor devices.
