DxHub Business Course | Use of Innovation and Knowledge in R&D Intensive Firms
Course Overview: Innovation Management and Emerging Technologies

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of why the strategic use of emerging and established technologies, deep market insights, and the development of a robust innovation strategy are critical – particularly for startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Students will gain both theoretical foundations and practical tools to assess challenges, manage risks, and capitalize on opportunities within an innovation portfolio.

Key learning areas include:
  • Core concepts and frameworks in innovation management
  • Critical engagement with current debates and theories in the field
  • Evaluation of contrasting perspectives within the innovation literature
  • Analysis of the key drivers, enablers, and barriers to innovation success and failure
  • Recognition that innovation is not solely rooted in scientific excellence, but increasingly shaped by effective management practices

A special focus will be placed on contemporary case studies, such as the rise of digital therapeutics (e.g., the “digital pill”) and applications of artificial intelligence. The course will examine how leading firms, with Google’s DeepMind as a prime example, leverage innovation to build sustainable competitive advantages.
