This seminar offers in-depth insights into the strategic management of Intellectual Property Rights, technology transfer, innovation processes, and the commercialisation of research. Participants will explore the various categories and models of technology transfer and learn about the different pathways through which research can be brought to market.
A key focus of the seminar is an in-depth exploration of the innovation value chain, with particular emphasis on open innovation strategies and typologies. Participants will gain a practical understanding of how to navigate this chain effectively—from ideation and development to commercialisation and societal impact. By the end of the seminar, participants will have acquired a comprehensive understanding of the innovation ecosystem. They will be equipped with actionable knowledge on R&D management, IP strategy, competition and market analysis, and go-to-market planning-all essential for translating innovation into real-world impact.
Antonios Angelakis is Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Crete in Technology and Innovation Policies, while his focus areas span innovation and technology policies; innovation sciences; innovation systems; technology transfer and innovation management; Intellectual Property Rights, management and spin-offs; deep tech, AI and digital policies; industrial and trade policies, and international political economy of technology. He has extensive professional experience as technology transfer officer in several Universities as well as innovation policy analyst. He serves as a member (since 2017) on the Attica Region Research and Innovation Council and he also served as a member of the high-level expert group ‘Fit for Future Platform’ (F4F) of the European Commission (2021-2024) for the simplification of EU laws. His publications include chapters in edited volumes, international conferences proceedings and papers in international peer reviewed journals. He is co-editor of the book: Aranitou, V. Manioudis, M. and Angelakis, A. (2025) The Economic Impact of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Analytical Approaches to Growth and Innovation Challenges Amid Crises in Europe, Palgrave Macmillan.
