The Investigação em Plantas para Suportar “Uma Só Saúde” Workshop, held on 11 April 2025 at ITQB NOVA, in Oeiras , brought together experts in biotechnology, microbiology, and genetics to explore the importance of plants within the “One Health” framework. The program featured presentations on diverse areas of plant science, from the exploration of biodiversity, germplasm conservation, and interactions with other organisms, to improvement and biotechnological applications.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in presentations and discussions spanning a wide range of topics in plant science, including:
- The exploration of plant biodiversity and conservation of germplasm
- Interactions between plants and other organisms
- Innovative approaches to plant improvement and biotechnology
The day concluded with a roundtable discussion focused on the role of scientists, the media, high school teachers, innovation offices, and local and regional governments in raising public awareness about the importance of plants and the contributions of plant scientists to food security, health, the bioeconomy, and planetary sustainability.
Pedro Pedrosa, Head of the Innovation Office at ITQB NOVA, and Elisabete Brigadeiro, Head of the Science and Innovation Office at OCC, presented the DxHub, highlighting the project’s mission to foster innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration and to strengthen the impact of plant science in promoting human, animal, and environmental health under the One Health approach.
