From an Idea to a European Innovation Hub

DxHub began with a clear ambition: to connect innovation ecosystems in Greece and Portugal to accelerate the development of diagnostic solutions for infectious diseases at the point-of-care. The project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon WIDERA call as part of the Excellence Hubs (EH) framework. Angie Kolokousi, Head of DxHub Management Team, presented the DxHub at the Widening Impacts 2025 Webinar Series (05/02/2026): “DxHub’s Story: From Idea Conception to Post-Project Ambitions and Vision” offering a comprehensive look at this journey, from early concept and consortium formation to implementation milestones and long-term vision.

Part of the Widening Impacts 2025 Webinar Series

The webinar was hosted within the Widening Impacts 2025 Webinar Series, an initiative seeded by the SolarHub Excellence Hubs project. The series was created to increase the impact of EU Widening Projects by offering a platform where initiatives can showcase capabilities, activities, and results.

The webinar was designed to support the formation of a stronger Excellence Hubs community, increase awareness of DxHub, EH projects, and the EU Widening Programme, catalyse new collaborations across research, healthcare, and innovation ecosystems, and disseminate best practices and lessons learned from both proposal development and project execution. Through knowledge sharing and open discussion, DxHub aims to help other initiatives navigate the complexities of EU project design, consortium coordination, and impact delivery.

DxHub’s story reflects a wider shift in European innovation: moving from isolated projects to connected ecosystems. By sharing its experience — successes, challenges, and lessons — the project supports a culture of openness that strengthens the entire Widening community. DxHub continues to evolve, not just as a project, but as a platform shaping the future of point-of-care diagnostics and cross-border health resilience.
