DxHub Strengthens Technology Transfer Capacity Through LifeArc Fellowship and ASTP Training

A core objective of DxHub is the establishment of a dedicated Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to support the creation and market entry of spin-offs that will commercialize the project’s innovative diagnostic tools. To address this need, Angie Kolokousi, Head of the DxHub Management Team, and Helia Sales, Innovation project manager,  were awarded a LifeArc Fellowship, enabling them to receive comprehensive training across TTO functions. Their participation in the ASTP Fundamental Training Course provided practical guidance on managing invention disclosures, negotiating licensing agreements, and presenting technologies to investors, skills that will directly support DxHub’s innovation hub development.

Objectives

As part of the fellowship, a three-day course was designed to build expertise in technology transfer. The program combined lectures and workshops focused on evaluating technology opportunities and exploitation strategies, licensing and negotiation fundamentals, intellectual property basics and steps in forming academic spin-offs.

Activities and Achievements

The course, held at the ASTP training event in Faro, Portugal, allowed Angie to collaborate with TTO professionals from across Europe. During the training, she gained skills in scouting, assessing, and prioritizing invention disclosures, insights into licensing negotiations and patenting decisions, understanding of academia–industry collaboration pathways, knowledge of spin-out formation and financing, best practices in IP management and research commercialization, opportunities to identify synergies among DxHub partners

This mobility experience significantly strengthened DxHub’s TTO capacity, fostered international knowledge exchange, and highlighted innovative practices that can support FORTH’s and NOVA’s technology transfer processes. The skills and connections gained through the LifeArc Fellowship are expected to contribute to long-term collaborations and further reinforce DxHub’s mission to build a sustainable cross-regional innovation ecosystem.
