Andreas Panagopoulos (Coordinator of the Technology Transfer Office at the University of Crete, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Crete, and founder of the interdisciplinary research center TECHNIS)

Andreas Panagopoulos is the coordinator of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at the University of Crete, an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Crete, and the founder of the interdisciplinary research center TECHNIS, which focuses on research in innovation and intellectual property.

He holds a PhD from University College London (UCL) and has taught at the University of Bristol, Lancaster University, and the European Political-Economy Infrastructure Consortium. He has also been an RTN fellow at the University of Toulouse and a visiting professor in the Department of Economics at KU Leuven, as well as in the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford.

He employs tools from economics, management, and legal science to understand the forces driving innovation and patents, with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence and the pharmaceutical industry. His research has been published in leading economics journals such as The Economic Journal, in management science journals like Academy of Management Perspectives and Academy of Management Best Papers and Proceedings, as well as in legal science journals such as Computer Law and Security Review and the Journal of Law and the Biosciences.

He has been twice awarded the American Academy of Management Best Paper Finalist Award, and has previously received funding from the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Currently, both his research and his work at the TTO are funded through research grants from the Greek Ministry of Development and the Ministry of Education.

Nikos Poulakakis (Full Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Crete and Director of the Natural History Museum of Crete)

Nikos Poulakakis is a Full Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Crete and the Director of the Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC). Since March 2021, he has also been an affiliated faculty member at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), and the group leader of the Paleogenomics and Evolutionary Genetics (PEG) laboratory.
