Dimitris Koutsioulis (CEO of EnzyQuest)

An experienced biotech entrepreneur and CEO of EnzyQuest, Greece’s leading company in molecular biology reagents and enzyme production. He holds an MSc in Molecular Biology & Biomedicine (2001) and a PhD in Protein Engineering (2006) from the University of Crete (UoC) and conducted postdoctoral research at New England Biolabs (USA). As Head Scientist at Minotech Biotechnology (IMBB-FORTH, 2016-2019), he led R&D efforts before founding EnzyQuest in 2019. He secured venture capital funding, established EnzyQuest as an ISO-certified molecular reagent manufacturer, and forged strategic partnerships with academic institutions, biotech companies, and distributors. Under his leadership, EnzyQuest has developed and commercialized high-quality molecular biology reagents, diagnostic kits, and enzyme solutions. He serves as a mentor at the Innovation Business Observatory (IBO) of the Region of Crete and is the Coordinator of the MSc course ‘Entrepreneurship and Innovation’ at UoC.

Ioannis Vlatakis (Head of Research and Development at EnzyQuest)

Dr. Ioannis Vlatakis studied Biology at the University of Crete (2007). He completed his MSc thesis (2010, in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine) in the Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory of the University of Crete under the supervision of Prof. Kriton Kalantidis. During his PhD studies, he gained expertise in protein biochemistry with a focus on RNA-related enzymes and collaborated with the laboratory of Pascale Romby at CNRS in Strasbourg (EMBO fellowship). He is a founding member and Head of Research and Development at EnzyQuest (since 2020). Since 2021, he has been appointed as the Scientific Responsible for EnzyQuest at the National Organization for Medicines (EOF). He has published four scientific articles and is responsible for the development of more than 10 commercially available Molecular Biology products for research use and one CE-IVD product (RT-PCR kit for the detection of SARS-CoV-2).
